Key value factors: For living or recently deceased artists, limited edition size and gallery representation drive value. Signed and numbered prints from smaller editions are most desirable.
A second treasure ship composition by Mayumi Oda, this time carrying a Goddess of Earth — the terrestrial counterpart to her Goddess of All Animals on the other takarabune (treasure ship). The earth goddess completes a cosmological scheme: where the animal goddess commands the living creatures of the natural world, the earth goddess commands the physical substrate that sustains all life — the soil, the rock, the fertility of the ground beneath all living things. Together the two treasure ship compositions reconceive the traditional New Year's vessel of good fortune as a vehicle for the sacred feminine in its fullest cosmic dimensions, the guardian of life on earth and in the animal kingdom. The AP indicates an artist's proof.
