Description
Two figures kneel in an interior room with tatami-green flooring and a wooden veranda railing visible behind a hanging willow branch. At left, a bald, elderly man in a blue-and-white patterned robe over an olive undergarment sits before a low tray holding small dark objects, hands folded; at right, a younger figure in a pale kimono with a purple-edged sash bends forward over an open chest, face lowered and obscured. A patterned sliding screen stands at the far left, and a black title cartouche with vertical Japanese text occupies the upper right corner. Ogata Gekko, Yato (Yagashira) Emoshichi, 1889, woodblock print.
