Description
A second impression or compositional variant sharing the title 晩照順風 (Favourable Sunset Wind), this print likely presents the same coastal or maritime subject from a different vantage point or with a modified color palette, a common practice in twentieth-century woodblock production where a design was re-worked to explore alternative atmospheric effects. Where the first composition may emphasize the breadth of the water, this variant may tighten the framing around the vessel itself or shift the horizon placement to alter the balance between sky and sea. The late-day light, conveyed through layered bokashi printing in orange, pink, and violet tones on oban-format washi, would require careful baren pressure and consistent paper moisture to achieve smooth tonal transitions. Together with its companion, the print forms part of a meditation on favorable conditions and transient natural light.
