Mount Fuji on a Moonlit Night at Kawai Bridge, published in 1947 as part of the Selection of Views of Japan series, depicts the sacred volcano reflected in the Fuji River or a nearby stream as seen from Kawaibashi — a bridge near Tagonoura on the Suruga coast — under full moonlight. The nighttime Fuji subject, with the mountain's snow-capped peak gleaming under the moon and its reflection stretching across dark water, was among the most technically demanding and aesthetically coveted subjects in [shin-hanga](/glossary/shin-hanga). Hasui's 1947 treatment combines the classical tsukiyo no Fuji (moonlit Fuji) motif with the [bokashi](/glossary/bokashi) sky gradations of his most accomplished nocturnal work.
