Description
The thirty-ninth work in Hudak's ongoing Folded Shadows series, this mokuhanga on washi explores the interplay of light, opacity, and geometric or organic surface structure. The series title points to a sustained investigation into shadow as a formal and conceptual subject — the way forms fold, crease, and cast partial darkness. Printed on washi using water-based pigments, the piece takes advantage of the paper's translucency and absorbency, allowing layered tonal passages to read with a softness distinct from Western print media. The sequential numbering implies systematic variation within a fixed set of formal constraints, consistent with a practice that uses repetition to isolate subtle perceptual changes across multiple impressions.
