Distant Domain

"Distant Domain" (2021) is a Japanese woodcut by Sara Lee depicting a horizontal seascape or shoreline in a muted palette of pale lavender-gray, soft pink, and off-white. A diagonal band of pale blue-gray cloud or water texture cuts across the upper portion above a flat horizon line, below which thin horizontal striations in blue-gray and dusty pink suggest a calm sea or wet sand. The composition is entirely abstract and non-figurative, with no human or animal forms present, and the overall effect is quiet and still.
