"Stairs" presents the repeating geometry of a staircase as a subject for spatial and formal investigation, rendered through a combination of lithography and digital printmaking techniques. The work likely isolates a section of architectural structure — treads, risers, and the receding angles of a flight of steps — abstracting familiar built space into a composition of planes, shadows, and parallel lines. Lithography's tonal range supports nuanced gradations of light across hard surfaces, while digital processes introduce precision in edge definition and tonal control that would be difficult to achieve through stone or plate alone. The miniature format, appropriate to the Awagami International Miniature Print Exhibition where the work received the Awagami Factory Prize in 2025, concentrates the compositional energy: stairs become a study in geometric rhythm rather than a document of a specific place. The print belongs to a broader interest in architecture as a lens for examining how humans structure and move through space.
