Edition period is the primary value driver for Hasui prints. Pre-war lifetime editions with the Watanabe copyright seal (A through D types) consistently achieve 3–5× the price of posthumous reprints of the same design. Condition is the second key factor — unfaded colors, full margins, and absence of foxing or staining are essential. Subject matter (snow > rain > night > other) provides a further modifier within each edition tier.
Futatsu Hall at Nikko, dated to the 1930s, depicts the Futatsudo — the "two halls" — at Nikko, a pair of subsidiary worship halls within the complex of Tosho-gu and the associated Taiyuin mausoleum on the mountain slopes above Nikko town. The Futatsudo are among the more intimate architectural subjects within Nikko's overwhelmingly ornate temple complex, and Hasui's composition likely captures the paired halls in a setting that emphasizes their wooded surroundings rather than their decorative surfaces. The undated 1930s attribution places this in his sustained engagement with Nikko subjects.
