Description
Hayama is a coastal town in Kanagawa Prefecture south of Tokyo, historically associated with the Imperial villa and known for its fishing harbor and views of Sagami Bay toward Mount Fuji. Ando's etching with chine collé bearing this title likely depicts a seascape, harbor scene, or coastal landscape in keeping with the location's character. The chine collé technique would warm the tonal range of what might otherwise read as a gray marine study, lending luminosity to sky and water. If water is the central subject, Ando's fine line work would describe surface movement with the same attentiveness he applies to botanical forms.
