Description
Pose (13) B is the thirteenth installment in Nishida's Pose series, variant B, depicting a cat in a carefully observed position. The series title suggests that each entry captures a distinct feline posture, building over many installments into a comprehensive catalogue of how cats arrange their bodies. By the thirteenth entry, Nishida has accumulated enough variations to demonstrate that the seemingly simple subject of a cat sitting or lying down contains infinite compositional possibilities. Each pose produces different relationships between the cat's curved back, extended legs, tucked paws, and angled head. The B variant means Nishida printed this composition in at least two color schemes, exploring how palette changes affect the mood of the same physical pose.
