One of Moilanen's earlier prints, this 2007 work combines figural and seascape elements with an explicit focus on [bokashi](/glossary/bokashi) as both technique and subject. The title's spiritual register suggests a figure in or near water, with the wake — the trail left by movement through water — serving as a metaphor for emotional or ethical clarity. The bokashi gradient, produced by applying pigment to a partially wetted block, would be used not merely as background treatment but as a formal element central to the composition's meaning. The translucent layering of water-based pigments on [washi](/glossary/washi) reinforces the imagery of water, light, and passage. This early work demonstrates Moilanen's sustained interest in the expressive possibilities of mokuhanga's most distinctive technical feature.
