Description
Morning Moon 59 belongs to the later phase of the series and likely shows the progressive abstraction characteristic of Amano's mature printmaking. The compositional elements have been reduced through repetition to their essential geometry: lunar disc or crescent, horizontal color band, ground register. What varies from print to print in the late series is the precise calibration of these elements — their size, proportion, color, and surface treatment — rather than any introduction of new motifs. Embossed obi-pattern references may appear at this stage, merging the lunar landscape subject with the textile-derived geometric vocabulary of Amano's later work. The print is likely modest in scale, printed on handmade [washi](/glossary/washi) with a small number of woodblocks, each inked and pressed by hand to build the composition through additive color layering.
