Description
The 034 sticker continues Goesel's serial mokuhanga project of small woodblock impressions on adhesive [washi](/glossary/washi). Each sticker is hand-printed using the traditional Japanese water-based method: pigment mixed with rice paste, brushed onto a carved cherry or shina block, and transferred to dampened paper through pressure from a [baren](/glossary/baren). The sticker format reduces the print to a domestic-scale object, a deliberate departure from the [oban](/glossary/oban) sheet sizes associated with the Edo-period [ukiyo-e](/glossary/ukiyo-e) tradition. The serial numbering invites a reading of the works as a single evolving body rather than isolated images, and aligns with the conceptual side of contemporary mokuhanga as practiced by artists who have passed through the International Mokuhanga Conference network. As with earlier entries in the series, the small dimensions concentrate the viewer on washi fiber, ink absorption, and the registration of overlaid color blocks.
