Description
The second print in the numbered untitled sequence. Lithography from a single stone or plate yields one tonal range per impression; numbered series in print practice often track variations in composition, registration, ink density, or paper that allow the artist to test the same drawn material under different printed conditions. The untitled run sits adjacent to Ashikawa's named civic and park subjects, sharing the lithographic technique and likely the manga-derived figural register, while remaining unfixed to a specific identified landscape source. The pairing of European nineteenth-century planographic technique with figural shorthand drawn from contemporary Japanese visual culture — the combination that defines her work — operates in these untitled prints as compositional experiment rather than documentary record. The print sits within the post-2019 body of work that followed her MFA at Musashino Art University and the Art Award Tokyo Marunouchi, when her artistic identity took its current form.
