Description
The third identified work in Hao Boyi's Autumn Wind sequence extends his investigation of seasonal atmosphere in the Beidahuang wetlands. Across the series, variations in composition, tonal emphasis, and the specific vegetation depicted suggest that Hao approached the theme as an ongoing study rather than a single resolved image. This print may place greater emphasis on wildlife or water surfaces than its predecessors, incorporating birds in flight or the disturbed surface of a marsh lake as evidence of wind's presence. The Chinese woodblock tradition, revitalized through the 1930s modern woodcut movement championed by Lu Xun, valued the print medium for its directness and social accessibility — qualities that Hao and the Beidahuang artists channeled into landscape subjects that celebrated the particular character of China's northeastern frontier.
