Description
A flock of white sheep with black faces and legs leaps diagonally across a plain pale background in the upper right, while a single sheep in the lower left has collapsed head-first over a wooden fence rail, legs splayed upward. Rendered in a flat, illustrative style with soft white texture on the sheep's wool against crisp black limbs and faces, the wood fence adds the only warm brown tone in an otherwise white and black composition. Chihiro Taki's 2020 "Sleepless Night," made with paper on wooden panel using pencil, colored pencil, watercolor gouache, and gold leaf, isolates the one fallen sheep from the leaping flock above it.
