The print captures a transitional autumn-to-winter moment in the Northern Japanese Alps, where Mt. Jōnen (2,857 m, Hida Mountains, Nagano Prefecture) has received its first snowfall — hatsukansetsu — while the lower slopes remain in full autumn color. Fukumoto's silkscreen technique allows for layered, saturated color fields: the vermillion, ochre, and umber of momiji and broadleaf foliage in the foreground are set against the cool whites and blues of the snow-capped pyramid peak. Worked at 49 × 64 cm, the print was selected for the 68th CWAJ Print Show in 2025, placing it within the cohort of contemporary Japanese silkscreen artists specializing in alpine sansui landscape. The composition draws on the meisho-e tradition of pictures of famous places, while the silkscreen medium permits flat color planes and crisp registration that distinguish Fukumoto's approach from the bokashi gradients of traditional woodblock landscape. Mt. Jōnen is visible from the Azumino basin in central Nagano, near the artist's working base, and represents a subject grounded in his local geography.
