Flower Bed in Izu

A coastal terraced hillside descends to the sea, with a snow-capped peak visible across the water in the upper left and a rocky, tree-dotted headland rising on the right. In the foreground, red-and-white striped flowers on tall stalks and low white-blossomed beds are separated by wooden fences, with a single small figure in white crouched among the plantings at left. The print uses dense, textured linework in green, orange, brown, and blue-gray tones; this woodblock print in ink and color on paper, titled Flower Bed in Izu, was made by Fumio Kitaoka in 1966.
