Heliography 01

Heliography 01 (1978), a pigment print by Hiroshi Yamazaki, is a monochrome seascape at night: a horizontal band of pure white light stretches along the horizon line, its glow reflected in faint streaks across the dark, gently rippling water below. The sky and sea are rendered in soft grey-to-black tones with a visible film grain, and no figures or landscape features appear beyond the water's edge in the lower foreground. The composition is stark and minimal, divided into flat horizontal bands of dark sea, glowing horizon, and dim sky.
