$500–$5,000. Common prints: $500–$1,500. Key value factors: Tajima's powerful abstract prints have appeal among both Japanese print and modern art collectors.
Created in 1963 using ink and color on embossed paper, "Bendbo" is an early example of Tajima's innovative use of embossing to create dimensional, tactile prints that challenge the flat surface convention of the medium. The raised ground gives the composition a sculptural presence in addition to its visual one, making the work an object as much as an image. This technique, which Tajima developed in the late 1950s and early 1960s, helped establish his international reputation.
