Small Picture

"Small Picture" is a self-aware title that calls attention to scale — and, by implication, to the relationship between the dimensions of an artwork and the dimensions of the world it addresses. Small-format works demand a different kind of attention from the viewer: proximity, intimacy, the sense that the thing must be approached and examined closely. Tajima's abstract language, whether deployed across large or small surfaces, maintains its essential character: layered, textured, evocative.
