Key value factors: As self-carved and self-printed works, sosaku-hanga value is tied to the artist's reputation and edition size. Larger formats, earlier editions, and historically significant works command the highest prices.
An untitled Nishimura Hodo woodblock print — one of the last in this sequence of unidentified works. His shin-hanga practice combined the artistic traditions of Japanese woodblock printmaking with the modern sensibilities of an artist working in the early twentieth century, producing prints that honored the technical heritage of the medium while engaging with the aesthetic concerns of a modernizing Japan that still valued the beauty of its traditional culture.
