Description
This work belongs to the collaborative-editioning strand of Huang Chun-yuan's practice, in which his Tsubaki Print Studio serves as master atelier for other Taiwanese contemporary artists. Chen Shun-chu was a significant Taiwanese photographer and installation artist whose work centered on family albums, ancestral memory, and the Penghu Islands; the title 與陳順築合作版畫創作 ("collaborative print creation with Chen Shun-chu") signals a direct artistic partnership rather than a reproductive print of a prior work. In this kind of collaboration the visual authorship typically remains with the originating artist, while Huang takes responsibility for translating the image into screen-printable layers — color separations, halftones, ink choices, registration, and edition control. Chen's vocabulary of photographic source material lends itself to silkscreen, which has historically handled photographic transfer better than woodblock or intaglio. The print documents one node in a broader Taiwanese contemporary print culture in which Huang functions as a hub: a screen-print specialist whose studio has editioned work for a generation of artists alongside producing his own independent series.
