Description
A domestic barnyard comedy in two acts: the strutting rooster and the more cautious hen, rendered with the bold outlines and warm flat color that characterize Sekino's animal subjects. Birds recur throughout his work — roosters especially — partly for their graphic potential (the jagged comb, the fanned tail, the aggressive posture) and partly for the comic theater of their social dynamics. This print pairs male swagger with female reserve in a manner the artist found perennially amusing.
