Description
Narumi was the forty-second post-station on the Tōkaidō highway, historically famous for its tie-dyed Narumi shibori textiles and its coastal views of Ise Bay. Sekino's print likely draws on this dual identity, possibly featuring figures in or near the town against the low, flat landscape of the Tokai coast. The subject invites the kind of attentive observation of local craft and daily life that characterizes Sekino's broader sosaku-hanga output. Printed on washi using hand-ground pigments, the work would reflect his characteristic economy of line and sophisticated layering of color, with the flat coastal light providing an opportunity for subtle bokashi across sky or water passages.
