Rhythm I

Rhythm I (2018) is a nonfigurative mokuhanga composition in two vertical panels, each divided by a horizontal band into upper and lower sections. Dense fields of short, curving horizontal strokes in blue-gray and pale gray tones create sweeping wave-like patterns, with the stroke direction shifting in arcs across each quadrant. The palette stays within a narrow range of blues and grays throughout, giving the print a cool, uniform tonality.
