Description
Untitled work attributed to Shōtei Hokuju (active c.1789–1843), the Hokusai-school printmaker best known for uki-e perspective landscapes in the Western-influenced manner of his teacher. The Japanese Art Open Database (https://ukiyo-e.org/image/jaodb/Hokuju_Shotei-No_Series-Unknown_title-00030960-020522-F06) records this impression without a confirmed title or specific subject identification. Hokuju's catalogued output centers on Edo meisho views — Mt. Atago, Senju Bridge, Ryōgoku, Mt. Dōkan — composed with the bird's-eye perspectival framing that Hokusai's school had absorbed from Chinese and Dutch engraved sources. Without additional bibliographic anchors this individual sheet cannot be matched to one of the documented designs, but the artist's attribution preserves the museum's record while flagging the gap for future research.
