Description
Hacho — a historic district whose name means "eight chō," referring to a measurement of traditional urban planning — is depicted in one of Nishijima's characteristic neighborhood studies: the houses not individually grand but collectively forming the textured fabric of a traditional Japanese town, their accumulated character more eloquent than any single building. Nishijima renders the neighborhood's roofline rhythms, the small variations in facade and garden that distinguish adjacent houses while maintaining the visual coherence of a unified architectural tradition.
