Nishijima renders the traditional townscape of Murozu — its white-walled, black-tiled namamako-kabe storehouses and fishing boats along a narrow waterfront — against the dramatically colored sky of sunrise. The composition employs strong horizontal banding: the luminous sky above, the still water of the Seto Inland Sea reflecting the color, and the dark architectural silhouettes of the shoreline buildings in the lower register.
