Description
A second Kisokaido town of Kano depicted in one of Nishijima's characteristic series studies — the same post station rendered from a different angle, in different light, or in a different season. His practice of returning to significant architectural subjects through multiple studies reflects the traditional Japanese aesthetic of seeing the same subject under changing conditions, using variation to reveal what no single view can capture. The Kisokaido highway towns offered exceptional subject matter for this multiple-study approach.
