Description
"Skyline" presents Nishijima's characteristically Japanese townscape from a slightly elevated perspective, allowing the rooflines to become the primary subject: the complex interlocking of tile roofs at different heights and angles, the chimneys and ridge ornaments, the way traditional Japanese domestic architecture composes itself into a continuous urban fabric. The view from above transforms familiar streets into an abstract pattern of greys and browns punctuated by sky, demonstrating Nishijima's gift for finding the compositionally unexpected angle within thoroughly familiar territory.
