Description
"Yuragu" — to swing, to sway, to move with gentle oscillation — may refer to the movement of branches or fabric in a breeze, or to the particular quality of reflected images in water that are perpetually in slight motion. Nishijima captures this gentle instability in an otherwise precise architectural or natural composition, using the title to alert the viewer to the element of movement within the static frame. The swaying thing within the fixed composition creates a tension between stillness and motion characteristic of his more contemplative works.
