Description
The left sheet completing the triptych of nighttime views at the Tsukiji breakwater. As the final panel, it likely extends the waterfront scene outward toward open water or a distant shoreline, perhaps showing boats departing or a moonlit expanse of Tokyo Bay. The cool nocturnal palette of indigo and black that characterizes the suite would reach its fullest expression here, with the distant horizon receding into unmodulated darkness. The Tsukiji nami-yoke series reflects the late Edo and Meiji-period interest in urban night imagery — a subject that allowed printmakers to demonstrate technical control of bokashi gradation and to evoke emotional register through darkness rather than coloristic display. Together the three sheets form a panoramic view of a historically significant waterfront district.
