$1,000–$6,000. Common prints: $1,000–$2,000. Key value factors: Minami's Paris career and poetic imagery have earned her a dedicated international following. Bird and butterfly subjects are most popular.
An etching with aquatint from 1967 depicting a city gate, one of Keiko Minami's explorations of architectural thresholds and enclosed spaces. Minami, who spent much of her career in Paris after studying at the Academie de la Grande Chaumiere, developed a vocabulary of delicate, almost dreamlike imagery rendered through fine etched lines and soft aquatint tones. The city gate becomes an image of passage and boundary, its stone or brick form standing between the known and the beyond. Minami's treatment likely reduces the structure to essential contours, surrounded by her signature open, luminous space.
