Description
The fifth work in Nagai's eleventh color lithograph series, Cl-11-5 continues his sustained investigation of gestural mark-making in the lithographic medium. Where conventional printmaking seeks precise repetition, Nagai's process foregrounds the expressive potential of direct drawing on stone, allowing lines to spread and bleed at their edges in ways that recall wet-on-wet textile dyeing. Overlapping color planes, likely applied in multiple passes through the press, build atmospheric depth without recourse to representational imagery. The print reflects Nagai's position at the intersection of contemporary Japanese abstraction and the material culture of Hachioji's artisan weaving heritage.
