Description
Cl-11-9 is the ninth work in Nagai's eleventh color lithograph series and demonstrates his sustained commitment to serialized, process-oriented printmaking. The lithographic surface here likely carries evidence of the drawing implement's pressure and direction — qualities that Nagai cultivates rather than suppresses — producing a print that reads as much as a gestural record as a finished composition. Layers of translucent color, characteristic of his practice, accumulate to suggest depth and movement. The work draws on the natural pigment sensibility Nagai absorbed from his father's weaving dyes, rendering the rural Japanese environment as felt energy rather than observed scenery.
