Description
GOGO NO NEKO — Cat in Afternoon — the Japanese-titled version of the Afternoon Cat subject, the domestic animal in the particular state of afternoon drowsiness. Kimura's cat subjects — Afternoon Cat, Cat and Stars, Girl Holding Cat — demonstrate his interest in the animal as a subject with both graphic possibilities and emotional resonance. The afternoon cat, warmly dozing in the late-day sun, represents one pole of feline character; the cat watching stars at night represents another.
