Description
Seven stars arranged in a composition that may reference either the Big Dipper (Hokuto Shichisei, the seven stars of the northern sky) or a purely abstract grouping of stellar forms. Kimura's star and celestial subjects place him within a tradition of Japanese printmaking that has always been drawn to the night sky and its capacity to suggest vastness, eternity, and the human sense of smallness before the universe. The seven stars as a group carry mathematical completeness as well as celestial association.
