Description
Star of the West — a celestial composition placing a star in the western quarter of the sky, the direction traditionally associated in both Japanese and European cultures with the setting sun, the evening, and the passage of time. Kimura's celestial subjects — stars, moons, evening suns — form a consistent thread through his career, each exploring the visual qualities of the night or twilight sky through the graphic means of the woodblock medium. The western star carries both directional specificity and symbolic resonance.
