Description
Light Room 005 — the missing 004 in the present sequence suggests a selective grouping rather than the full series — extends the Light Models procedure with a fifth folded photographic sheet. Following the conventions established across the group, the work pairs a photographic record of an interior with a system of folds that turns the print into a shallow relief. By the fifth iteration, the formal terms are familiar to any viewer encountering the series in sequence; the specific contribution of 005 lies in how its fold geometry handles the underlying image. Across the series the photographed light and the actual light on the gallery wall negotiate across the printed surface, with each numbered work proposing a different pattern of facets through which that negotiation runs. Kitano's studio practice runs in parallel with his teaching at Kyoto Seika University, and the Light Models works carry the pedagogical proposition that photography and printmaking are not separate disciplines but variants of a single image-making operation — a position the folded sheets argue silently each time they are exhibited.
