A second treatment of the Sagi Musume subject by Tsunetomi, this print revisits the figure of the heron spirit dancer at a different moment in the narrative or in a variant compositional arrangement. The Sagi Musume dance moves through three distinct costume phases—the opening white furisode associated with the heron's purity, a middle section of colorful outer robes representing earthly attachment, and a final black-clad passage depicting the maiden's torment. Tsunetomi's Osaka sensibility lends the figure a directness and physical presence that distinguishes it from more ethereal renditions of the same theme. The woodblock printing would have demanded careful layering of pigments on [washi](/glossary/washi) to achieve both the stark white of the robe and the subtle [bokashi](/glossary/bokashi) shading along sleeve edges that creates the illusion of depth. Multiple impressions of this popular subject suggest continued demand for Tsunetomi's theatrical [bijin-ga](/glossary/bijin-ga) among Osaka print collectors.
