Description
An untitled print attributed to Kiyochika and classified under abstract subjects. During the latter phase of his career, Kiyochika produced political caricatures and satirical prints in addition to his atmospheric cityscape work, and some experimental compositions resist easy categorization. This print may reflect his engagement with flattened graphic forms or high-contrast patterning—techniques that diverge from his characteristic tonal depth and suggest influence from the illustrated press environment in which he worked for publications including Marumaru Chinbun. Printed using standard woodblock processes on washi, it represents one of the less-documented modes of an artist whose full output extended well beyond his celebrated kosen-ga series.
