Description
The Kurama Road (鞍馬道) leading north from Kyoto toward the mountain village of Kurama and its ancient temple is one of the traditional approaches to the mountains above the city. The road passes through the Kibune valley with its rushing stream and densely forested slopes — a landscape that shifts from urban to rural to mountain in the space of a few kilometers. Kotozuka's print of this route captures the character of the mountain approach: the narrowing path, the enclosing trees, the atmosphere of a journey into a different world.
