Large Kite Festival at Hamamatsu

A large red-and-black kite shaped like a demon or dragon face fills the upper two-thirds of the composition, its bulging white-and-blue eye, black flame-like markings, and blue-spotted tongue rendered in bold flat colors against a cream background. Below, a crowd of dark silhouetted figures gathers under a mustard-gold sky, arms raised as they hold ropes leading up toward the kite. "Large Kite Festival at Hamamatsu," a silkscreen print by Masaaki Tanaka, is signed and titled in pencil beneath the image.
