Description
Bright Side likely presents a landscape in which a concentrated band of luminosity cuts through an otherwise dense field of charcoal. Minami's method of building tonal depth through successive layering creates surfaces where darkness is not flat but visually weighted, making the light region feel earned rather than imposed. The title suggests an asymmetrical composition in which one edge or plane of the panel is left relatively bare or lightly worked, allowing the white ground of the panel to assert itself against heavily applied charcoal. This structural tension between worked and unworked surface is characteristic of Minami's practice. The effect evokes the quality of diffuse morning light breaking across a low horizon — spare, directional, and without sentimentality.
