A three-dimensional wall relief of thin vertical slats projecting from a white panel, their edges painted red on the left side of the composition fading into pale grey-white toward the right. Mounted on a plain white wall, the piece casts a sharp diagonal shadow to its right, and the slats appear to shift in a rippling, gathered curve rather than a flat plane. Made by Masayuki Tsubota in 2015 from gesso, powdered mineral pigments, and glue on basswood, titled "the layer of self."
