Description

The wall of self_idgswtfigl2 — five small square panels hang in a single horizontal row on a plain white gallery wall, evenly spaced and each casting a soft shadow. Reading left to right, the surfaces shift from deep indigo blue to white to three tones of olive-grey and brownish-green, most showing fine linear striations, with one panel displaying a mottled, marbled surface instead. This 2014 work by Masayuki Tsubota is made of gesso, powdered mineral pigments, glue, and tin foil on basswood.
