Description
A stack of thin, uniform indigo-blue slabs is arranged one atop another, the lower layers set flush while the upper layers fan out in a staggered, comb-like cascade of jagged edges. The rectangular, box-like form stands upright against a plain grey backdrop, casting a soft shadow to its right, with no other objects or figures present. This 2014 work by Masayuki Tsubota, titled "the layer of self_indl1," is rendered in gesso, powdered mineral pigments, and glue on basswood.
