Description
A rectangular, matte black block projects horizontally from a plain white wall, its left edge cut into a stepped series of thin, receding layers while the right edge remains a single flat plane. The surface is uniformly dark with faint horizontal streaking, and the block casts a soft trapezoidal shadow onto the wall below it. Titled "the layer of self_nhkyn1," this 2015 work by Masayuki Tsubota is made of powdered mineral pigments and glue on basswood.
