Description
In this third work from the 'Children's Mind' series, Sora continues to probe the tension between control and spontaneity that animates his abstract practice. The woodblock medium imposes its own discipline — each color requires a separate carved block, and the sequence of printing determines how colors interact — yet the forms Sora designs carry a deliberately unplanned quality. Irregular contours and asymmetric arrangements suggest gestural freedom while remaining the product of careful preparation. Printed on [washi](/glossary/washi), the ink sits on the surface with a depth unavailable in commercial reproduction, and variations in pressure applied by the [baren](/glossary/baren) produce subtle texture within ostensibly flat areas. The 'Children's Mind' title points toward an emotional register that is open and associative rather than analytical — a quality Sora pursues through the accumulated works of the series.
